PGP Desktop 8.1 is a legacy product. The current version of PGP Desktop Email, includes the following features not found in version 8.1:
- Policy based email encryption
- Support for PGP and X.509 S/MIME certificates
- Instant Messenger encryption
- Optional central management via PGP Universal Server
